Justin Etheredge did some research into Famous Computer Guys (and Some Gals) and posted pictures (part 2) of lots of people you know -- Knuth, Gosling, Woz, Stallman, K & R, RSA -- anyway, lots of them, here are some:
His point was ...I really want to know what it is about programming, or computers in general, that makes people want to grow a beard, have long hair, and dress like a slob. [...] So who was the guy that started the unkempt programmer code of honor?
However, I think he's got it backward. It's not that people get into computers and then grow a beard and have long hair (and get glasses). It's that growing hair makes you smart. Glasses help, too. The power of hair was recognized long ago.
So I've got the glasses. Next step, I'm not shaving.
