Recital night

At school this evening they had Recital Night. The orchestra teacher does this to give the kids a chance to have a run-through for a solo and esemble competition that will take place this coming Saturday. But Recital Night is open to anyone who wants to play a piece.
In the event, most of the kids did perform their solo pieces for Saturday. Holy cow, the kids are amazing. One girl played a movement from Victor Herbert's second cello concerto. Another played the opening movement of the Barber violin concerto. And there was other amazing music on harp, another cello, a viola, and more.
The most unusual was a bass trio. For some reason, Garfield High has had a succession of really great girl bass players who have dominated the jazz bands in the last years. Three of them got together -- a senior, junior, and sophomore -- and played "Recuérdame" by Joe Henderson, "Summertime" by Gerschwin, and a tune by Neal Hefti. They had great arrangements and all three of them did witty solos.
Sabrina played a couple of movements from the Poulenc clarinet sonata. Here's an MP3 of the third movement:
